Dear doctors,

I am Yoel Chan, a 2nd year medical student from the Yong Loo Lin, School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. I would like to warmly extend my invitation to you to join Project Yangon, an overseas community service project, in serving the villages of Shwe Pyi Thar, a small township in Yangon, Myanmar.

Every year, Project Yangon, comprising of NUS medical students, will head down to the village of Shwe Pyi Thar over the span of approximately 2 weeks to carry out Health Screening and Health Education programmes for the villagers, alongside with our benevolent local partners such as Golden Lotus and YMCA Myanmar.

At our free Health Screening in May 2017, we screened 505 participants with the help of doctors from both Singapore and Myanmar. We were also pleased to be working with Burmese medical students who provided us with the language proficiency we need during medical consultations. In addition, we also engaged with Burmese ophthalmologists from Myanmar Eye Centre to provide eye screening to the villagers.

Last year, Project Yangon celebrated its 7th year anniversary by improving the quality of our three major health education initiatives with great success – our Health Ambassadors, Befrienders of Yangon and School Health Education programmes.  This is in collaboration with Golden Lotus, one of our main partners in Myanmar.

To get a better idea of the programmes we have in Yangon, please do view our youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qOAPpCwrfc&t=143s

We have also attached an infographic that provides a summary of our impacts in Yangon last year, the results from our data analysis of our screening questionnaires and the finalised schedule for your perusal.

How you can help?

We are recruiting doctors who are willing to volunteer their time to provide medical consultations for our Health Screening efforts. The health screening days are going to be a total of 3 days from 26th to 28th of May 2018, Saturday to Monday.

We hope that you would be interested in joining us for our health screening efforts, for the results that you see would not have been possible without doctors such as yourself. If you are, please do send us a reply via email indicating your interest, and we would keep you in closer contact to update you regarding the finer administration details.

Should you have any queries, please do feel free to contact Project Yangon via email - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and we hope to hear from you soon! Thank you once again for your support!

Warmest Regards,

Yoel and Li Herng, Project Heads
