Lotus Eldercare Academy (Myanmar) is a proud partner of Project Yangon, a social mission project by students from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Singapore.

Project Yangon is an overseas community project that aims to improve the health standards of villagers in Yangon, Myanmar. In May 2014, we worked with Yangon YMCA’s free village health clinics and went down to the village of Shwe Pyi Thar. At the village, we screened about 500 villagers for common health problems such as hypertension and diabetes. We also visited close to 50 households as well as a few school and orphanages to share with them about our health education programme.

Project Yangon contributes to the village in the three main aspects. Firstly, we conduct health screenings for the villagers, referring patients back to the village health clinic for follow-up. Secondly, we have a health education programme where we try to impart good health habits through health education. This health education programme was conducted both in the villagers’ homes and in schools. Lastly, over the course of the next few years, Project Yangon also aims to train villagers to be Health Ambassadors, who will spread health messages to their fellow villagers even when the team is not physically there.

Through these efforts, it is hoped that Project Yangon will be able to positively impact the lives of the people of Yangon, both in the short and long term.
