With ageing population, the incidence of cognitive impairment and dementia is on the rise. Caring of Older Adults with dementia can be daunting and frustrating for families, since not many will be prepared for such complex work prior to the need.

Many caregivers are left burnout, others have guilty feelings that they had not done enough to support their loved ones on their last leg of the journey in life. Work on Dementia prevention, support and services has been on the rise in the past 30 years.  Dementia villages have been started all over the world, first in Europe, then to Asia in the past 5 years.

In this issue, Lotus Eldercare will showcase and recommend some of the existing technologies using A.I. and M.L. to aid in the day to day care of an Older Adult with dementia.

Dementia has various stages and each stage will come with its own unique challenges to the family or service providers. Care should be extremely customised for each individual. Unfortunately, most of the current housing and support service providers may not be so familiar with such practices. Most are meant for the mass market and thus the process can be quite standardised and not customised to the individual.

We hope to share some of our ideas from our international exposure and our local on the ground knowledge from daily interactions with caregivers on this issue.

We sincerely hope all Older Adults with Dementia can live peacefully and blissfully, ageing gracefully to the great beyond.

In this FREE issue, our thoughts on how a Smart Dementia Village in a Smart Nation can look like. Do e mail us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for your copy today!

Caring for Dependent Older Persons details the knowledge that a caregiver should have when caring for an older person who is dependent on his/her care.

The main part of this book is a step-by-step guide on all the necessary skills needed when helping an older person with his/her Activities of Daily Living, monitoring of the person's health and the overall care of the older person. This book provides holistic knowledge by explaining how age and disease affect an older person.

It also covers the potential stress that a caregiver may endure while taking care of an older person. It is a valuable reference guide for a caregiver during the journey of caregiving. This book is the first of its kind to provide caregivers with comprehensive information on taking care of a dependent older person, especially in the Singapore context. The step-by-step explanation can be a reference guide for caregivers before or after their caregiver training.

The financial help section gathers information on all the schemes available in Singapore that can help with the care of a dependent older person. A comprehensive list of financial help available in Singapore is also detailed in this section.
