Speech: The Future of Caregiving in an Ageing Society


Good Morning everyone, and thank you for being here today.

Before I begin, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed Guest of Honour, Ms. Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Development, for gracing this occasion with her presence. I would also like to thank Dr. Daniel Tan, President of the Caregivers’ Welfare Association (CWA), and Mr. Steven Yeo, Executive Director of CWA, for their dedication and leadership in advancing the caregiving community’s mission.

It is truly a privilege to be part of such an important dialogue on caregiving, and I am honored to share my thoughts on The Future of Caregiving in an Ageing Society with all of you today.

Dr. Tan summarized the varying needs of older individuals as they transition from wellness to frailty, emphasizing the importance of addressing both Basic Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental ADLs.

Dr. Tan Jit Seng Leads Educational Talk for Disability Care Transport Drivers at AGAPE Village

 

On April 27, 2024, AGAPE Village hosted the third installment of an essential training session entitled "Transporting Clients with Cognitive Impairment", led by the renowned Dr. Tan Jit Seng. This specialized workshop was designed for drivers involved in the disability care transport service, focusing on enhancing their skills and understanding when managing clients with cognitive impairments, such as dementia.

 

Dr. Tan Jit Seng, a well-known figure in the field of community and long term home care, brought his vast experience and expertise to the session, aiming to equip drivers with the knowledge and tools necessary for handling the unique challenges presented by clients with cognitive decline and behavioral disruptions.

Dr Tan Jit Seng is again invited to Nee Soon South for a talk to the older adults in this community. The topic is "Important Self Care Tips to Age Well" held at Blk 830 at Yishun South.

Dr Tan Jit Seng went through an overview of multiple topics and provide a overview of the tips for one to age well. These topics include Mental Wellness, Physical Fitness, Preventative Healthcare, Financial Considerations and Legal needs.

The talk was at full capacity, with participants actively engaging in discussions and asking questions on the subjects mentioned. It was a fruitful and lively afternoon session with the Residents and many gained more ideas on what it takes to age gracefully.
