CWA talk 29th May 2024
Dr. Tan Jit Seng, Senior Home Care Physician at Lotus Eldercare Health Services, recently delivered an insightful presentation to the staff at the Caregiving Welfare Association, one of Singapore's oldest charities supporting older persons and their caregivers. Dr. Tan summarized the varying needs of older individuals as they transition from wellness to frailty, emphasizing the importance of addressing both Basic Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental ADLs.
In his talk, he highlighted the critical needs for social interaction, psychological well-being, spiritual wellness, and pastoral care among the elderly. Dr. Tan identified significant gaps in current eldercare services and pointed out the vast opportunities these gaps present for improvement and innovation in caregiving.
The session concluded with a dynamic Q&A segment where participants discussed challenges related to mental capacity, long-term care funding, and strategies to better support their clients. The exchange was both fruitful and enjoyable, providing valuable insights and practical solutions to enhance eldercare services.
